5 Ways to Feel Better about Yourself Now!

With the sun finally making its tentative appearance, it’s time to delve into the summer wardrobe again.  Whilst the temperature may be a cause for celebration, not all of us feel comfortable in our summer clothes right now.  Maybe they’re a little tighter, struggle to fit, or maybe we just don’t feel confident with more of our body on display. Whatever the case, if you don’t feel comfortable, that can trigger some negative and destructive feelings that take the shine out of the sunshine…

If you do genuinely want to change your body by losing fat and/or building muscle tone – that may take some time.  Certainly longer than crash dieting for a holiday.  But as much I can encourage you to be patient, and remind you of my favourite quote: “Never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway”….

…Sometimes we just need to feel better about ourselves now! 

So here are my 5 top tips to boost your confidence quickly and healthily:

1.     Shoulders back!  How you carry yourself is everything. See the Amy Cuddy TED Talk if you don’t believe me.  You don’t need to walk around in a Wonder Woman pose, but it is much harder to shrink yourself away and feel negative when you stand tall, open your shoulders, and hold your head high. 

2.     Accessorise – Shoes, handbags and jewellery don’t care about your body size or shape, but they can help to transform your outfit.  Statement pieces can draw attention to where, or away from whatever you want.

3.     Playlist – Music can have such a powerful effect on our emotions, and so why not create a playlist of your favourite uplifting songs?  The ones that make you sing or start to dance wherever you are!  For full effect, I recommend saving these for when you need them (before you get sick of them).  Unsure where to start? Why not have a search on your streaming service. 

4.     Scents – We all have our favourite scents, and the benefits of aromatherapy are well known.  So, try picking out some oils or blends that work to uplift you!  Oils like lemon, bergamot, orange and rosemary can be great for this, but of course everyone has their own preferences.  Perfume can give you an instant lift but try to minimise use of traditional perfumes if you are wanting to lessen the burden on your toxic load.

5.     Gratitude – List 3 things that you are grateful for about your body.  Shifting your focus in this way can help to move you away from the negative and into a more positive state. It can help to change perspective and cultivate self-acceptance.
